Stephen Bankes is a UK Chartered Patent Attorney and European Patent Attorney, and has a degree in Chemistry from Oxford University. He entered the profession in 1972, and joined Baron & Warren in 1984.  He has wide patent experience in chemical and mechanical subject matters and since joining us has handled an increasing number of applications in the medical and biochemical fields. He has considerable experience in the handling of designs and regularly represents clients at opposition and appeal hearings before the European Patent Office, as well as before the UK Patent Office and Patents County Court.  He is a member of FICPI.

Susan Murgatroyd is a UK Chartered Patent Attorney and a European Patent Attorney, and has a honours degree in Physics.  Susan entered the profession as a graduate in 1981 with the Patents Department of Thorn EMI Plc and has been a member of the firm since 1987.  She has patent experience in the mechanical, electrical and electronics fields and also experience in registered designs.  She has acted for clients in EPO opposition proceedings and has regularly advised on patent infringement and revocation matters. Susan is accredited to practice before the Community Trade Mark and Registered Design Offices.

Max Stacey, our Partner in charge of trade marks, is a Member of the Institute of Trade Mark Attorneys, a qualified Registered Trade Mark Attorney, and is an accredited official representative before the Community Trade Mark and Registered Design Offices.  A graduate of the London School of Economics, Max initially joined us in 1992, quickly qualifying as a trade mark attorney before moving to Guinness PLC for one year.  Rejoining us in 1996, Max has built up a considerable body of experience in UK and CTM oppositions, in advising on infringement and cancellation matters and instructing solicitors and barristers for the purpose of litigation. Douglas Johnstone is a UK Chartered Patent Attorney, a European Patent Attorney and an engineering graduate with an honours degree from Imperial College London.  Douglas has been a member of this firm since 1992, prior to which he practised as an engineer on major civil engineering projects both in the United Kingdom and abroad and worked as a Patent Examiner in the UK Patent Office and as a Patent Officer in the Ministry of Defence's Principal Directorate of Patents. He is accredited to practice before the Community Trade Mark and Registered Design Offices. Douglas has experience in handling EPO oppositions, including oral proceedings, has advised on patent and design disputes and has instructed solicitors and barristers for litigation purposes.

Jerry Bridge-Butler is a UK Chartered Patent Attorney, and a UK and European Registered Trade Mark Attorney. Jerry obtained an honours degree in English from the University of Wales in 1996, and spent four years working as a journalist, before becoming a technical assistant at G. F. Redfern & Co in 2000. His patent work is mainly in the field of mechanical engineering and electronics, and he qualified as a UK Chartered Patent Attorney and was elected as a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Patent Attorneys in 2006. He became a Partner of  G. F. Redfern & Co in the same year. Jerry is a also a Member of the Institute of Trade Mark Attorneys and is an accredited official representative before the Community Trade Mark and Registered Design Offices. His Trade Mark work includes prosecuting applications in the UK and Europe, and protecting the trade mark portfolios of a number of well known brands

 

 

 

 

 

Irena Kantor

Irena Kantor is a Member of the Institute of Trade Mark Attorneys, a qualified Registered Trade Mark Attorney and accredited to appear before the Community Trade Mark and Registered Design Offices.  She is a graduate of the University of East London, with her first degree in Biochemistry and Microbiology as well as being a Master of Philosophy in Molecular Biochemistry.  After a period in cancer research and thereafter, pharmaceutical sales, Irena entered trade marks.  Before joining us as a Trade Mark Assistant in 2000, Irena had built up a range of experience within both private practice and industry.  Now fully qualified, Irena is working with Max Stacey in our London Office.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Steve Townsend

Steve Townsend is a UK Chartered Patent Attorney and European Patent Attorney, and has a Masters degree in Engineering from Imperial College. Having first entered the profession in 1995 and joining Baron & Warren in 2007, Steve previously worked for Philips for many years. He has extensive patent experience in electrical, electronic and software subject matters and has represented Philips and other clients before the European Patent Office and the UK Patent Office. Steve also has considerable experience in advising on patent infringement and validity matters and for due diligence investigations in support of corporate acquisitions and divestments.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Michael Robinson

Michael Robinson is an Associate Member of the Chartered Institute of Patent Attorneys and a with an honours degree in Civil Engineering from City University, London.  He practised for several years as an engineer before entering the profession in 1996. Michael has experience of a range of technologies, particularly electro-mechanics and IT. Keith S Warren

Keith Warren is a UK Chartered Patent Attorney and European Patent Attorney with a degree in Electronics Engineering from London University, and has also studied mechanics.  Keith entered the profession in 1955 and has been a member of our firm for more than 40 years, during which time he has involved himself with all aspects of intellectual property practice.  He is a member of FICPI, LES and AIPPI and is also qualified to prosecute trade marks and designs before the Community Trade Mark and Registered Design Offices. Keith has now retired as a partner but continues to be fully involved as a consultant.

Tony Warren is a UK Chartered Patent Attorney and European Patent Attorney and has a Higher National Certificate in Electrical Engineering.  Tony entered the profession in 1954 and has also been a member of our firm for over 40 years. He has wide patent experience in many fields including electrical, automotive, aircraft, automobile components, marine and mechanical engineering. He is also qualified to prosecute trade marks and designs before the Community Trade Mark and Registered Design Offices. Tony has now retired as a partner but continues to be fully involved as a consultant.

 

 

 

James Bridge-Butler

James Bridge-Butler is a UK Chartered Patent Attorney, a European Patent Attorney and a UK and European Registered Trade Mark Attorney. After a period as a pilot in the RAF James joined the profession in the early 1950s, working for Kilburn and Strode. He qualified as a Chartered Patent Attorney in 1961 and has been a fellow of CIPA since then. After a period working as a Patent Attorney in Ireland, James joined G. F. Redern & Co in the early 1960s, where he became a partner in 1969. James acted as sole proprietor of G. F. Redern & Co for a number of years before being joined by his son Jerry in 2000. James is a long standing Member of the Institute of Trade Mark Attorneys, and is an accredited official representative before the Community Trade Mark and Registered Design Offices.
